FAQ
>>
What types of large format documents are suitable for
scanning?
Basically, any drawing from A to E
size (36" wide) that fits into the scanner, is suitable for
digitizing. In fact, only in a couple of instances where we were
unable to scan a large format document due to its physical
condition.
>>
What if the documents are very old and in poor
physical condition?
While it will take additional document preparation time due to
repairs, the vast majority of documents are reparable. We have
worked with torn and poorly maintained drawings, blue prints
from the 30’s & 40’s and faded drawings that require specific
configuration to obtain the best possible image.
>>
What image format do you offer and what is the typical
size of a large format image?
PDF & TIFF are by far the most commonly used. However,
should you need a different image format,
please indicate. A typical
B&W PDF or TIFF image would be around 90kb
and 9Mb, digitized at 300 DPI.
Generally speaking, drawings printed on mallard are scanned at
300 DPI, while paper drawings or maps are scanned at 400 DPI.
Also, grayscale is often used to scan poorly printed
documents to enhance the readability of the document.
>>
What size of large format documents are you able
to scan?
Our equipment can handle up to 36” in width and basically no
limit in length. Although there are some drawings, maps and
other large format documents that exceed 36” the number is so
small that we handle such documents on a case by case basis.

What if I need my drawings converted from
raster image to
vector?
DX also provides conversion from Raster to Vector format
utilizing one of the leading conversion applications
and highly qualified expertise.
